Intelligence Group, a company based in Rotterdam (Netherlands), and The Network can give for the first time a clear overview of the world-wide labor market mobility
On the 28th of November the Global Talent Barometer (www.globaltalentbarometer.com) has been launched in The Netherlands by Intelligence Group and StepStone.nl (Dutch partner of The Network). Since 2006 Intelligence Group and The Network have executed for the third time an international research on the labor market mobility world-wide. The third wave, accomplished during 2011, concerns 2,3 billion people on the international labor market. For the first time it is possible to get insights on the motivation of people who consider moving abroad for their career. This is crucial information to win the global war for talent and for the international positioning of a country and company. The research effects the labor market of 66 different countries, including BRIC, G20 and Europe.
Almost 42 million IT specialists want to work in The Netherlands
To illustrate the amount of possible insights and relations as a result of this international result, the IT target group can be made a case study. In the world 41,6 million IT experts want to work in The Netherlands. Digging deeper in the data, looking for more detailed information one can find from which countries these IT experts are willing to move to The Netherlands: where in the world Dutch companies, e.g., can find the largest potential and with which countries one has to compete to recruit this specific target group. The motives of the IT target group to choose The Netherlands differ per country of origin. Nevertheless, on a global scale one may conclude that gaining more experience is the most important reason for working abroad. Next to that, a good salary is the most important reason, world-wide, to choose for a specific company, although this also can differ per country of origin or per target group.
71% of Greek labor market want to work abroad
With the online Global Talent Barometer it is possible to get insights of 66 different countries and find out how to reach and set the labor force in these countries into motion. More specific for certain European countries, the results are that 71 percent of the Greek labor force want to work abroad. For the Portuguese labor force is this even 97 percent (world-wide: 68%). The reasons to move abroad differs per country, but the economic recession is for 70 percent of the Greek people, who wants to work abroad, the most important motivation. For 48 percent of the Portuguese population this is the main reason (world-wide: 12%).
Comprehensive research
Never before a comprehensive research of this amount has been executed on the subject of international labor market mobility. And never before it is made accessible and intelligible online. Intelligence Group, a research company based in Rotterdam and specialized in the area of labor market research, has questioned 162.495 persons in 66 countries by means of an online survey. Therefore questionnaires are developed in 26 languages, ranging from Chinese, Hebrew and Russian. Together with The Network and Signal Noise the online tool has been developed in order employers can learn more about their potential talent. “Dutch employers are recruiting talent more often abroad, because of the shortages within the Dutch labor market,” according to Geert-Jan Waasdorp, founder of Intelligence Group. “Because international recruitment is complex and we want to give our clients accurate information, our aim was to make this market more transparent. A big first step has been made with this third wave of the international research and we are very proud of that.”
Piet Derriks, director of StepStone Holland is very happy with the barometer. “It is the first time that international mobility is presented in this way. This tool gives many insights in international possibilities and it is crucial for international recruiters. We are very proud that we, as partner from The Network, can share this tool with our clients.”
